A New Era for Digital Health in Kenya
AfyaApp, a Kenyan e-health platform developed by Jamhuri OS, has officially launched to transform how individuals access and manage healthcare information. The app aims to create a more connected experience between patients, providers, and stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem.
The launch follows April’s debut of Jamhuri OS, an African-built mobile operating system designed for optimised performance on affordable devices with localised digital experiences and AI-native services.
Addressing Key Healthcare Challenges
“We envision AfyaApp as a platform that empowers individuals to take control of their health journey while fostering greater connectivity within the healthcare network,” explains Ernest Mungai, co-founder of both Jamhuri OS and AfyaApp. He notes a critical need for accessible digital tools that address common challenges like fragmented medical information and difficulties in accessing appropriate services.
Early Successes & Future Vision
The app has already surpassed 500 downloads despite limited marketing, demonstrating clear demand for such solutions. A pilot program with Smart Health Care Clinic in Maai Mahiu proved particularly valuable in refining the platform based on real-world user feedback.
Looking ahead, Mungai says they’re focused on strategic partnerships to expand adoption across Kenya and eventually throughout Africa – targeting healthcare providers, government institutions, insurance companies, and more. The long-term goal is a regional and continental digital health network that improves access, coordination, and outcomes for all users.
