Anambra Targets National Lead in AI Governance
The Anambra State Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Agency has announced an ambitious plan to become Nigeria’s first government body fully integrated with Artificial Intelligence. This commitment was reaffirmed at a recent retreat focused on the next four years of digital transformation under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership.
Strategic Vision for AI Integration
According to MD/CEO Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the Agency will prioritize developing internal expertise in AI tools and systems. He emphasized that staff must proactively acquire these skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. The goal is not just to implement AI solutions but to build an institution where AI informs every process—from service delivery to governance.
Global Best Practices as Models
Chief Technology Officer Chinonso Okoye, PhD, presented a strategic vision drawing inspiration from countries like Singapore, Ireland, and Estonia. These nations have successfully leveraged AI to improve efficiency, automate services, and create smarter governance systems. The Anambra Agency aims to replicate this success by focusing on:
- Strengthening internal AI capabilities
- Deploying digital solutions that transform public service delivery
- Creating data-driven decision-making processes
Comprehensive Review & Future Focus
The retreat included a retrospective review of the past four years, identifying both successes and areas for improvement. Participants discussed:
- Expanding broadband access across the state
- Enhancing cybersecurity measures for government systems
- Fostering collaboration between digital initiatives
- Building institutional capacity through targeted training
Staff were reminded to ensure all strategic plans adhere to SMART principles (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) as they work towards realizing Governor Soludo’s vision of a smart and liveable Anambra.
