Strengthening Nigeria’s Cybersecurity Defenses
Check Point Software Technologies has launched its fourth Check Point SecureAcademy in Nigeria, partnering with the International Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Academy (ICDFA) in Lafia, Nasarawa State. This expansion aims to address the country’s critical cyber skills gap as it undergoes rapid digital transformation.
The new academy joins Check Point’s existing network of institutions across Nigeria - Cybersafe Foundation in Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, and Osun College of IT & Management in Ibadan - extending world-class cybersecurity training to underserved regions beyond major commercial centers.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Certification Pathways
The SecureAcademy program provides ICDFA students, alumni, and faculty with access to:
- Check Point’s online content library
- Structured corporate courseware based on the Infinity Platform
- Lab installation guides and software licenses
- Professional certification pathways like CCSA and CCSE
This comprehensive approach equips learners with prevention-first methodologies and hands-on experience using industry-leading technologies.
Addressing a Growing Threat Landscape
Nigeria’s digital economy is expanding rapidly, with ICT contributing 11.31% to real GDP in Q1 2026 - yet this growth has created a larger attack surface that malicious actors are actively exploiting.
Check Point Research recorded an average of 4,361 weekly cyber attacks per Nigerian organization in June 2026 - nearly double the global average - highlighting the urgent need for skilled cybersecurity professionals.
With an estimated workforce gap of over 90% (requiring at least 275,000 professionals against only 25,760 currently), Nigeria faces a significant challenge in defending its digital assets. Check Point’s SecureAcademy initiative represents a crucial step toward closing this gap and building a more resilient cyber defense posture.
“This partnership with ICDFA will equip Nigerian students with the technical expertise to defend against today’s AI-driven threats while opening globally recognized career pathways,” said Kingsley Oseghale, Country Manager for Check Point West Africa.
