Congo Needs to Speed Up Digital Infrastructure Spending
During a panel discussion at the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group’s annual meetings, Yves Castanou, Director General of Congo Télécom, emphasized the urgency for increased digital investments in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Castanou noted that while the telecom sector has seen progress, continued growth requires greater financial support. He specifically called on Congo to accelerate infrastructure development to improve economic performance, connectivity, and access across all regions.
He highlighted a key challenge: Congo Télécom’s reliance on government funding. To address this, Castanou stated that the public enterprise must diversify its financing sources and attract private investment to support the country’s digital transformation goals.
The AfDB annual meetings brought together leaders from across Africa to discuss development priorities, including leveraging technology for economic growth and financial inclusion. Castanou’s remarks underscored the critical role of digital infrastructure in achieving these objectives.
