Expanding Horizons: Dar Ventures Partners with Plug and Play to Accelerate Startup Growth
In a move poised to reshape the African technology landscape, Dar Ventures—the venture capital arm of design and engineering firm Dar—has announced a strategic partnership with global innovation platform Plug and Play. This collaboration aims to amplify DarE, their startup program for companies operating in architecture, engineering, construction, and related sectors across Africa and beyond.
The fusion of Dar’s industry expertise and Plug and Play’s extensive network creates a powerful ecosystem where startups can access mentorship, funding opportunities, and international markets—critical components for sustained growth. For early-stage ventures focused on specialized industries like construction tech, this partnership offers an alternative pathway to expansion that complements traditional venture routes.
Addressing Funding Gap in African Tech
The timing of this announcement is particularly relevant given recent trends in Africa’s startup funding landscape. While the region saw $1.44 billion raised across 174 deals in the first half of 2026, early-stage startups received just $9 million—a significant drop from $25 million a year prior, according to TechCabal Insights. This highlights the need for innovative programs that connect founders with targeted industry expertise and resources.
What Startups Can Expect
DarE will now target pre-seed to pre-Series A companies with at least an MVP or market-ready product. Selected startups can anticipate:
- Expert support from both Dar Ventures and Plug and Play mentors
- Direct engagement with industry leaders and potential customers
- Curated access to investors and corporate partners
- Opportunities for international expansion
Beyond the program’s duration, a global alumni community will ensure continued connections for commercial partnerships, knowledge sharing, and future investment rounds.
“DarE has always been about providing entrepreneurs with the right platform to succeed,” said Nader Aboushadi, co-founder of Dar Ventures. “This partnership takes our ambition to the next level by connecting exceptional founders with precisely what they need—expertise, markets, and capital—to scale their businesses.”
Since its launch in 2023, DarE has already supported 32 startups across four cohorts, demonstrating the demand for specialized programs within Africa’s tech ecosystem. With Plug and Play now on board, this initiative is set to unlock even greater potential for construction technology innovation across the continent.
