New Cohort of Innovators to Tackle Key Challenges with AI

Google has announced the 15 startups that will comprise Class 10 of its highly competitive Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program. These ventures, hailing from across the continent, are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to address critical challenges in sectors like fintech, agritech, e-health, mobility, and SaaS.

The selection process was rigorous, with nearly 2,600 applications received from startups based in African countries that have developed AI-first solutions. The chosen companies will now participate in a three-month hybrid program providing access to mentorship, technical workshops, and cloud resources.

Notable Startups in the Cohort:

  • From Nigeria: Bani (cross-border payments), MasteryHive AI (transaction reconciliation & fraud detection), Regxta (alternative credit scoring for microbusinesses), Termii (reliable financial messaging)
  • From Kenya: Coamana (digitizing food markets), Duck (shop floor visibility for consumer brands), ReportsAI (impact reporting), VunaPay (fintech infrastructure for farmers)
  • From South Africa: Loop (mobility & payments digitization), Vambo AI (multilingual AI solutions)
  • Other countries represented: Angola, Uganda, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Tanzania

The program aims to equip these startups with the tools and knowledge needed to scale their impact and secure follow-on funding.

“This is bigger than Loop,” said Imtiyaaz Riley, CEO of mobility startup Loop. “Being selected by Google shows that globally relevant innovation can come from anywhere.” The cohort reflects a growing trend of AI solutions emerging from Africa’s vibrant tech ecosystem.
