Google Invests in Next Generation of African AI Founders
In a significant boost to the continent’s tech ecosystem, Google has announced its latest cohort for the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program. From nearly 2,600 applications across Africa, just 15 startups have been selected to participate in Class 10.
The three-month intensive program will run from April 13 to June 19, 2026, providing these promising ventures with mentorship, technical training, and access to Google’s cloud resources. The cohort represents a diverse range of sectors including fintech, agritech, healthtech, mobility, and SaaS.
Meet the Class of 2026
The selected startups include:
- Anda Africa (Angola): Developing AI-powered solutions for agriculture
- Bani, MasteryHive AI, Regxta, and Termii (Nigeria): Focusing on fintech, education, regulatory tech, and communication platforms
- Coamana, Duck, ReportsAI, and VunaPay (Kenya): Building innovative solutions in healthcare, logistics, data analytics, and payments
- Emaisha Pay (Uganda): Providing digital payment solutions for underserved communities
- Loop and Vambo AI (South Africa): Developing AI applications for various industries
- Maad (Senegal): Creating personalized learning experiences using AI
- Meditect (Ivory Coast): Transforming healthcare diagnostics with AI-powered tools
- Safiri (Tanzania): Building smart mobility solutions
All participants are leveraging artificial intelligence to address critical challenges facing the continent, while preparing for significant growth and follow-on funding.
Track Record of Success
Since launching in 2018, Google’s accelerator program has supported over 100 startups from 17 African countries. Alumni have collectively raised more than $263 million in funding and created over 2,800 jobs – demonstrating the tangible impact of this initiative on Africa’s tech landscape.
