Kuanda Completes $5 Million Secondary Share Sale

South African digital lending infrastructure startup Kuanda has finalized a US$5 million secondary share sale led by E4E Africa. This transaction returns capital to early investors while strengthening E4E’s position as a major shareholder.

Key Highlights

  • Kuanda, established in 2018, provides digital lending-as-a-service solutions across multiple channels
  • The company has disbursed over $4.4 billion in credit to more than 14.6 million users through 870 million loans
  • Existing investors including Accion Ventures and Seedstars Africa Ventures also participated in the round
  • Kuanda operates in five markets with plans to expand into seven more

This secondary sale demonstrates that African fintech companies can generate returns for shareholders before a major exit event like an IPO or acquisition. Kuanda’s success highlights its ability to build profitable, scalable lending infrastructure serving millions across the continent.

“This is an important milestone,” said Andrew Milne, Kuanda CEO. “It reflects the strength of the business we’ve built – delivering essential financial services where traditional institutions can’t reach.” E4E Africa’s Bas Hochstenbach added that Kuanda is using technology and partnerships to offer needed products at fair prices to African businesses and consumers.
