Trusted Transactions: Mastercard Partners with Busha for Simpler Crypto Transfers

In a move to enhance trust and usability in digital asset transactions, Mastercard has teamed up with Busha, a leading Pan-African digital asset exchange. The partnership brings Mastercard Crypto Credential to eligible Busha users in Nigeria, enabling them to send and receive cryptocurrencies using simple verified aliases instead of complex blockchain addresses.

The new system works by replacing lengthy crypto wallet addresses with user-friendly email or phone number equivalents—all while ensuring transactions reach validated recipients through Mastercard’s verification network. This reduces errors and failed transfers common in digital asset payments.

“Digital asset transfers should be as seamless and trustworthy as other forms of digital payments,” said Gabriel Swanepoel, division president at Mastercard for Africa. “Mastercard Crypto Credential gives users confidence that funds are going to verified endpoints while making transactions simpler with easy-to-use identities.”

Busha users automatically receive their Crypto Credentials upon verification, requiring no additional setup. The system extends beyond Busha’s platform—verified users can transact with anyone else in the Mastercard Crypto Credential ecosystem across participating exchanges and wallets.

“At Busha, we’re focused on making digital assets practical, accessible, and trusted for everyday use,” added Michael Adeyeri, co-founder and CEO of Busha. “This partnership helps us deliver on that promise by providing a more intuitive and secure experience for our users.”

The introduction of Mastercard Crypto Credential underscores both companies’ commitment to responsible innovation in digital finance across Africa—where digital asset adoption is rapidly growing for investments, remittances, and cross-border commerce.
