Transforming Clinical Practice with AI
One Med Link, a Moroccan e-health startup founded in 2023 by Deyaa Wahbi and Soukaina Benabid, is developing an innovative AI-powered platform designed to optimize clinical workflows and unlock the potential of health data.
The platform aims to work alongside existing hospital systems rather than replace them. It supports healthcare professionals with tasks such as:
- Clinical documentation & summaries
- Structured patient information
- Decision support tools
- Prescription management
- Data transformation (unstructured to structured)
“Our objective is not to compete with established electronic medical records, but rather to build an intelligent layer that enhances their functionality,” explains Deyaa. The platform adheres to international healthcare standards like FHIR to ensure interoperability.
Addressing Key Challenges in African Healthcare
One Med Link identified a critical gap beyond the mere absence of digital solutions: existing systems often fail to connect clinical practice with actionable data. Clinicians spend significant time on administrative tasks, searching for information, and transferring data between incompatible platforms.
Moreover, many internationally available healthcare AI models lack representation from African populations. One Med Link aims to address this by:
- Improving the structure & usability of local health data
- Ensuring patient privacy through rigorous standards
- Building solutions tailored to Moroccan/African contexts
From Research to Real-World Impact
The startup currently has over 200 healthcare users and 50 research collaborators. Key performance indicators extend beyond user numbers to include:
- Time savings on documentation
- Completeness of medical records
- Workflow efficiency
- Usability of structured data for research
One Med Link’s involvement with a new hospital in Rabat will serve as a major deployment site, particularly within the emergency department—where efficient workflows and access to information can have immediate operational impact.
