MTN Empowers Teachers With AI Skills for Modern Classrooms
The MTN Foundation, in partnership with the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL) and Co-Creation Hub, is conducting a 12-week digital training program to equip Nigerian educators with artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
Addressing Educational Gaps
The initiative aims to improve teaching quality, enhance student learning outcomes, and address the growing need for digital literacy in Nigeria’s education system. With over 10 million children currently out of school—the highest number globally—this program represents a significant investment in human capital development.
Practical AI Applications for Educators
During recent sessions led by data scientist Oluwatobi Olayanju, participants explored various AI tools that can transform classroom practice:
- Chatbots for lesson planning and personalized student support\n* Visual design platforms to create engaging learning materials\n* Text-to-video/audio converters for multimedia content creation\n* Assessment generators for efficient evaluation

Measuring Impact Through Interactive Learning
Participants regularly test their knowledge through interactive quizzes on platforms like quiz.com, providing valuable feedback on program effectiveness and areas for improvement. Early results indicate significant gains in productivity, assessment design, and AI-assisted lesson planning.
“This program is remarkable and well on track to produce a cohort of educators who are confident in integrating AI into their teaching,” said Joy Medupin from Co-Creation Hub.
The MTN Foundation’s SAIL initiative still has two weeks remaining before the final project phase, with organizers optimistic about its long-term impact on Nigerian education.
