Bridging the Digital Divide in African Farming

South African startup MyBitSecure has officially launched its MBS SmartFarm Platform following a successful three-month pilot programme in Stellenbosch. The platform addresses a critical gap in emerging markets by combining IoT-enabled agricultural technology with enterprise-grade cybersecurity.

The SmartFarm solution integrates retro-fittable sensors, flow-meters, and dashboards into existing irrigation systems – allowing farmers to monitor soil conditions and water usage in real-time. This approach enables both traditional farms and newer smart agriculture initiatives to benefit from digital solutions without needing complete infrastructure overhauls.

Pilot Results Demonstrate Impact

The pilot at the Sustainability Institute in Lynedoch showed measurable improvements in soil health and water management practices. Independent observers confirmed these positive outcomes, validating the platform’s ability to deliver tangible benefits in real-world conditions.

MyBitSecure co-founder Tandi Rouse emphasized that this technology is specifically designed for African farmers: “We’re bringing intelligence to protect soil health – the foundation of food security – which has long been inaccessible to those who need it most. Our platform is built for African conditions and serves the communities who feed us.”

The company plans a phased rollout across Sub-Saharan Africa, prioritizing emerging farmers, cooperatives, and smart agricultural programs that can benefit from improved data insights and operational efficiency.
