Nigerian Startup Aeon Raises $1 Million to Strengthen Cybersecurity Across Africa

A new player in the African cybersecurity landscape has emerged with significant funding. Nigeria-based Aeon, a startup focused on building sovereign cyber defense infrastructure for the continent and beyond, announced today that it has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding.

The round was led by Terra Industries, with participation from Resilience17 (founded by Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola) and other investors. This follows a successful pilot program between Aeon and Terra that has now evolved into a commercial joint venture.

Addressing Critical Cybersecurity Gaps

Founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu, Aeon develops cybersecurity tools specifically designed for critical industries such as financial institutions, cloud providers, and infrastructure operators. Their comprehensive product suite addresses vulnerabilities across code, cloud environments, and endpoints—providing a layered defense against evolving cyber threats.

“We’re building the foundational security layer that will enable digital economies to thrive,” said Samuel Ogbonyomi, CEO of Aeon. “This funding allows us to accelerate our development efforts and expand our reach across Africa and the Global South.”

The investment comes at a critical time as cyberattacks targeting African businesses and governments continue to rise in frequency and sophistication. By providing sovereign cybersecurity solutions, Aeon aims to help organizations maintain control over their data and infrastructure while complying with local regulations.

Strategic Partnership for Wider Deployment

The joint venture between Aeon and Terra will focus on deploying the startup’s technology across government and corporate operations in emerging markets—addressing a significant need for secure digital infrastructure as these economies continue to grow.

With this new funding, Aeon is poised to become a key player in strengthening cybersecurity resilience across Africa and beyond.
