Powering the Green Transition: Spiro and Yadea Join Forces for African EV Expansion
Kenya-based electric mobility leader, Spiro, has announced a strategic partnership with Yadea, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric two-wheelers. This collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of affordable, sustainable transport solutions across Africa.
Building on Success
Spiro already operates the continent’s most extensive battery-swapping network for electric motorcycles, with over 95,000 vehicles, 2,500+ stations, and more than 30 million swaps completed. The company has facilitated over 1 billion kilometers of low-carbon travel—demonstrating a clear demand for clean mobility alternatives.
With recent funding closing at $270 million (including a $55 million investment announced in June), Spiro is well-positioned to scale its impact. This partnership with Yadea will leverage the Chinese manufacturer’s global reach and technological expertise.
Synergies for Scalable Impact
The collaboration combines:
- Yadea’s manufacturing capabilities, R&D resources, and presence in over 100 countries
- Spiro’s operational network spanning seven African nations (Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Rwanda, Togo, Cameroon, Benin)
- A shared commitment to addressing climate challenges through accessible technology
Together, they will focus on:
- Supplying tailored electric vehicles for regional markets
- Integrating these vehicles into Spiro’s battery-swapping infrastructure
- Co-developing customized platforms optimized for African road conditions and commercial use
A Turning Point for Clean Transport
“This partnership validates our mission to build Africa’s green mobility foundation,” said Gagan Gupta, founder of Spiro. “By combining Yadea’s innovation with our operational experience, we can compress the timeline to clean transport and help thousands more riders switch to affordable EVs.”
According to Anant Badjatya, CEO of Spiro, this collaboration represents a critical step in meeting Africa’s rapidly growing demand for electric mobility solutions.
Yadea echoed this sentiment, noting that Africa represents “a massive frontier” for zero-emission transport and that the partnership aligns with their global mission to reduce carbon emissions.
