Terra Taps Private Capital for Autonomous Security Growth

Nigerian defence-tech firm Terra Industries has launched a commercial division focused on selling its autonomous security systems directly to private infrastructure operators. This marks a strategic expansion beyond the government and military contracts that have defined the company since 2024.

The new unit will target companies operating power plants, pipelines, mines, ports, and refineries across Africa, as well as in regions like the Gulf, South America, and South Asia – sectors Terra estimates lose billions annually to theft, sabotage, organized crime, and operational inefficiencies. Its autonomous air and ground systems offer perimeter security, threat detection, and large-scale inspections, all coordinated through ArtemisOS, a proprietary operating platform.

“Government and military work will always be central to our mission,” stated co-founder and CEO Nathan Nwachuku. “But this commercial division creates a sustainable growth engine across industries, strengthening our position as we serve the companies actively building infrastructure in the Global South.” ## Leadership for Expansion \Terra has appointed Todd Stiefler as Director of Commercial to lead this new venture. Stiefler brings extensive experience from previous roles at WHOOP and Palantir, where he led B2B growth across government, defense, and corporate wellness sectors. His background in navigating regulated markets makes him well-suited to expand Terra’s reach. ## Building on Existing Infrastructure Protection \The commercial division leverages Terra’s existing deployments protecting approximately $11 billion in infrastructure assets across multiple African countries – including power plants and mines. This foundation positions the company for rapid growth as it targets additional private sector clients.

The launch follows a recent $52 million seed funding round, backed by investors like 8VC, Silent Ventures, and Norleo Space Investments, demonstrating confidence in Terra’s expansion strategy. The company has set ambitious goals to exceed $100 million in contract bookings this year and has opened its first international office in London.
