A New Cyber Defence Layer for Africa

Terra Industries, a leader in autonomous security systems, has made a strategic $1 million seed investment in Aeon, a promising cybersecurity startup based in Nigeria. This partnership aims to strengthen cyber defence infrastructure across Africa and the Global South, addressing a critical need for robust digital protection.

The round also includes participation from Olugbenga Agboola, co-founder and CEO of Flutterwave, who is contributing through his venture fund Resilience17. The investment builds on a successful pilot project between Terra Industries and Aeon earlier this year, establishing a foundation for deeper collaboration beyond financial support.

A Comprehensive Security Approach

Aeon’s platform provides organizations with comprehensive vulnerability scanning across code, cloud systems, and endpoints, helping them identify and fix weaknesses before attackers exploit them. The company operates through two core products: Aeon Edge and Aeon Console, designed for high-stakes clients like banks, financial institutions, and critical infrastructure operators.

Founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu, Aeon addresses a common challenge where organizations manage multiple security tools without gaining a clear view of their overall exposure. This aligns perfectly with Terra Industries’ complementary strengths—Terra focuses on physical security while Aeon handles digital and cyber protection.

Synergistic Partnership

Nathan Nwachuku, CEO of Terra Industries, envisions Aeon becoming “a cyber defence layer” for financial institutions, corporations, governments, and militaries. The joint venture will see Aeon’s technology deployed across both military and commercial operations, with plans to pursue contracts jointly in the Global South.

Terra Industries, founded in 2024, has quickly expanded beyond traditional defence work into commercial infrastructure, securing contracts for mining operations in Nigeria. This latest deal extends Terra’s reach to protect not just physical assets but also the digital systems that support them—a critical capability in today’s interconnected world.

The partnership represents a convergence of physical and cyber security expertise, recognizing that comprehensive protection requires addressing both domains—particularly as they become increasingly intertwined.
