Village Capital Backs Two Promising Ghanaian Companies
In a move highlighting continued investor interest in Africa’s startup ecosystem, Village Capital has deployed $350,000 from its latest fund into two Ghanaian ventures. The investments mark the first allocations from a facility specifically designed to support early-stage African companies building essential services.
The funding comes through the Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility (AECF), a $4 million vehicle launched in July 2025 in partnership with the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank and Netherlands Enterprise Agency. The AECF focuses on startups developing locally grounded solutions for economic mobility and climate resilience—areas where African entrepreneurs are showing increasing innovation.
Addressing Critical Needs
The two Ghanaian companies selected for this initial investment are:
- Rivia Clinics: A tech-enabled primary healthcare startup receiving $200,000 to expand its clinic network, strengthen sales efforts, and enhance virtual care capabilities. Rivia is addressing a critical need in Ghana where access to quality healthcare remains a challenge.
- VDL Fulfilment: An e-commerce logistics platform securing $150,000 to finance fleet expansion and warehouse infrastructure improvements. VDL’s solution supports the growth of online businesses by providing reliable delivery services.
“Rivia and VDL exemplify the practical solutions being developed by Ghanaian founders—addressing real challenges in healthcare access and efficient logistics,” noted Heather Matranga, Managing Director of Venture and Investments at Village Capital.
Local Partnerships Drive Impact
Village Capital’s approach emphasizes collaboration with local Entrepreneur Support Organizations (ESOs) that understand the nuances of African markets. For these Ghana investments, Reach for Change and Innovation Spark played key roles in identifying promising startups and ensuring alignment with community needs.
This model helps channel capital to ventures that might be overlooked by traditional investors while providing crucial mentorship and business development support.
