Zoho Expands Financial Toolkit for Nigerian Businesses

Zoho Corporation has launched a Nigeria edition of its cloud-based accounting software, Zoho Books, designed to help local businesses navigate complex tax regulations while leveraging AI-powered financial tools. This comprehensive update extends beyond just the accounting product, integrating with other applications in Zoho’s finance and operations suite.

The new edition automates VAT calculations based on item type and customer classification, manages reverse charge transactions, and handles withholding taxes for both resident and non-resident parties—all critical components of Nigerian tax compliance. Businesses can generate VAT schedules compatible with the TaxProMax portal and submit e-invoices directly through the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) portal or via approved third-party providers.

“Nigeria has one of Africa’s most dynamic business landscapes, where successful companies understand that regulatory compliance creates a competitive advantage,” explained Prashant Ganti, VP of Global Product Strategy at Zoho. “Our purpose-built AI finance applications streamline operations and provide real-time insights as businesses grow.”

Beyond Compliance: Intelligent Financial Management

The Nigeria edition retains all core Zoho Books features—invoicing, online payments, bank reconciliation, inventory tracking, project management, budgeting, and workflow automation—while adding several AI capabilities:

  • Ask Zia: For instant data retrieval and business overviews
  • CoCreate Agent: Generate sales transactions from simple prompts
  • Predictive analytics: Identify trends and detect financial anomalies
  • Zia Invoice Agent: Provides actionable insights for optimizing invoicing processes

According to a recent Zoho survey of Nigerian SMEs, only 24% currently use AI in financial management, with lack of awareness being the primary barrier. Businesses that have adopted AI report saving an average of 1-3 hours per week.

The launch expands Zoho’s portfolio of country-specific finance and operations editions to 16 markets worldwide, including Kenya, South Africa, the UAE, India, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
