Accrue Targets Growing Demand with New Business Payments Solution
Fintech startup Accrue has launched a comprehensive banking platform specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses in Africa. The new offering, called Accrue Business, allows companies to manage cross-border payments using stablecoins—digital assets pegged to the value of traditional currencies like the US dollar or euro.
The platform enables businesses to:
- Create stablecoin wallets and virtual accounts
- Send and receive international payments
- Pay suppliers across borders with a single infrastructure
- Manage employee spending and payroll
According to Clinton Mbah, co-founder and CEO of Accrue, the launch addresses a clear market need. “We’ve seen success helping individuals send money quickly and affordably,” he explained. “Businesses asked for the same solution.”
Tapping into Africa’s Growing Cross-Border Payments Market
The timing aligns with significant growth in Africa’s cross-border payments space, which Oui Capital projects will reach $1 trillion by 2035 from around $329 billion in 2025. Several fintechs are now leveraging stablecoins to address payment bottlenecks for businesses.
Unique Agent-Led Approach
Accrue differentiates itself through an agent network that already facilitates money transfers across 15 African countries. When a business sends payment, the system matches them with local agents who convert currencies on both ends:
- In Ghana, Cedis are converted to stablecoins
- The transaction settles via the blockchain
- In Nigeria, Naira is exchanged for stablecoins
This model allows Accrue to charge competitive fees—around 1% for transactions and 0.5% or less for US dollar payments based on volume.
Building a Trusted Network
The agent network consists of vetted individuals who earn income by facilitating transactions. These agents, often young people without formal employment, receive referrals from existing users, creating organic growth while ensuring quality control. Accrue also extends credit lines to reliable agents, enabling them to process larger volumes.
With its new business platform, Accrue is positioned to capture a share of Africa’s rapidly expanding digital payments market while providing businesses with faster, cheaper access to global commerce.
