Bekia Raises $765K to Revolutionize Waste Management in Egypt and Beyond

Egyptian waste-management startup Bekia has announced a successful seed funding round of USD 765,000. The investment will fuel the company’s expansion plans, including technology development, market reach, and entry into new African territories.

Connecting Waste to Value

Founded in 2019 by Alaa Afifi, a computer science graduate from Cairo University, Bekia operates a digital platform that streamlines waste collection. The system connects households and businesses with verified collectors, tracks transactions transparently, and ensures recyclable materials reach industrial buyers efficiently.

Impact to Date

Bekia has already demonstrated significant impact:

  • Diverted over 25,000 tonnes of waste from landfills
  • Served more than 100,000 customers
  • Created income opportunities for over 2,400 people

The company’s success stems from addressing a critical need in Egypt and across Africa: formalizing the informal waste sector while creating economic empowerment.

What’s Next?

With this new funding, Bekia will:

  • Expand its engineering team to accelerate product development
  • Launch “Bekia Next” - its first B2B software solution in October
  • Explore expansion into a second African market

The investment was led by Madica Ventures with follow-on support from Catalyst Fund and Jambaar Capital, signaling confidence in Bekia’s mission to transform waste management across the continent.
