Bode Abifarin Named New CEO of MTN Nigeria’s MoMo PSB

MTN Nigeria has appointed Bode Abifarin as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of its Mobile Money Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB), effective September 1. This appointment marks a significant development in MTN’s ongoing reshaping of its fintech operations within Nigeria.

Abifarin brings over two decades of experience to the role, including leadership positions in financial services, consulting, digital payments, and fintech. Most recently, she served as COO at Flutterwave, where she played a key role in expanding the company’s presence across multiple markets while developing scalable operational models and managing regulatory engagements.

Prior to Flutterwave, Abifarin spent 15 years at KPMG, advancing to Associate Director in Management Consulting and advising financial institutions on strategy, transformation, customer experience, and business growth. She also founded Strata Advisory, a consulting firm specializing in technology-focused solutions for businesses seeking sustainable expansion.

Focus on Financial Inclusion

Abifarin expressed her honor at joining MoMo PSB during a pivotal time for digital financial services in Nigeria. She emphasized the potential of financial inclusion to drive economic empowerment and expand access to essential services across the country, committing to collaborate with employees, regulators, partners, and stakeholders.

Serigne Dioum, CEO of MTN Group Fintech, noted that Abifarin’s extensive background uniquely positions her to guide MoMo PSB into its next phase. Michael Ajukwu, Chairman of the Board, also highlighted her expertise in payments, digital transformation, stakeholder engagement, and financial inclusion.

Strategic Context for Appointment

The appointment comes as MTN Nigeria is undergoing a significant ownership shift within its fintech division. In April 2026, the company announced plans to transfer a 60% stake in both MoMo PSB and Y’ello Digital Financial Services to MTN Group in a deal valued at ₦152.06 billion, while retaining a 40% stake.
