Botswana Tech Fund Nears $7 Million Milestone in Digital Growth Initiative
The Botswana Tech Fund (BTF) has achieved a significant first close of US$6.7 million towards its ambitious target of US$64 million. This milestone represents substantial progress for the fund, which launched in April with the goal of backing technology companies driving digital transformation across Southern Africa.
The BTF is structured to support founders through all stages of growth, from pre-seed ventures to established businesses. It leverages Botswana’s favorable macroeconomic conditions, robust governance framework, and high internet penetration—all factors that create an ideal environment for scalable tech startups within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Strategic Partnership Approach
The fund is being developed as a collaborative effort between venture capital firms and family office investors. Launch Africa Ventures will serve as investment advisor during phase one, while Pula Investments has committed as the anchor investor.
This first close demonstrates strong initial support for the BTF’s mission to bridge digital gaps within the region. The fund anticipates attracting additional investors to reach its full $64 million target, which would establish it as a major source of early- and growth-stage capital in Southern Africa.
“Now the work begins,” the fund stated. “There is a significant opportunity to help close the digital gap between our target markets and more established technology ecosystems such as South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya.” They expressed excitement about backing founders developing solutions that can drive meaningful change across the region.
