Addressing Real Needs with Community Support
A new South African crowdfunding platform, MILLI, is helping individuals access vital funding for healthcare, education, and entrepreneurial ventures. Launched in November 2023 by student-turned-CEO Dario Eugenio and his professor Dr Peter Konhäusner, the platform addresses a critical gap in opportunity across the country.
The Milli Difference
Unlike traditional crowdfunding sites, MILLI actively helps campaigns get funded through its own audience and partnerships. The platform emphasizes storytelling with video integration and social sharing features—what Eugenio calls “better stories driving more funding.” Since launching, it’s added roughly 500 new users monthly, processing over 3,000 donations.
Real-World Impact
Campaign success varies from same-day funding to raising ZAR35,000 (US$2,000) within a week. Users report the platform’s intuitive design and support have been instrumental in reaching their goals—whether it’s covering medical expenses, pursuing education, or launching a small business.
Expansion Plans
Currently focused on South Africa, MILLI aims to extend its reach across Sub-Saharan Africa, leveraging high mobile usage and social sharing habits common in the region. The company generates revenue through a flat fee of ZAR1,000 (US$60) per campaign—a model designed for predictable growth as volume increases.
With its community-centric approach and focus on real needs, MILLI represents a promising evolution in crowdfunding that could transform how individuals access vital resources.
