Tolaram Obtains $51M Financing to Refinance Key Nigerian Asset
Singapore-based consumer goods group, Tolaram, has secured a $51 million loan from Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) to refinance part of its acquisition debt for Guinness Nigeria.
The financing will help replace some of the short-term funding initially provided by Standard Bank of South Africa when Tolaram acquired Diageo’s 58.02% stake in Guinness Nigeria in 2024, a deal valued at approximately $70 million.
Why This Matters
- Financial Flexibility: The new loan extends repayment terms and reduces reliance on short-term debt for Tolaram’s Nigerian operations
- Market Confidence: Demonstrates continued lender support for Tolaram’s long-term investments in Nigeria despite economic uncertainties
- Regional Financial Flows: Highlights the increasing capital movement between Asia (Singapore) and Africa via financial hubs like Mauritius
Guinness Nigeria, now majority-owned by Tolaram, returned to profitability with ₦41.2 billion ($31.1 million) in profit after tax for the 18 months ended December 2025.
