Manufacturing Africa Initiative Drives Economic Growth
A UK government-backed programme has mobilized over $630 million in investment and created more than 21,400 direct jobs in Nigeria through 23 successful deals over the past six years. The announcement was made at a Lagos event attended by British High Commissioner Pete Vowles and other dignitaries from business and development sectors.
The Manufacturing Africa programme, funded by the UK government, has supported high-potential businesses across Nigeria and five other African markets since 2020. By strengthening investor readiness and facilitating connections with capital, the initiative helps companies navigate fundraising processes and secure crucial investments.
New Fundraising Toolkit Launched
A highlight of the Lagos event was the launch of the Manufacturing Africa Fundraising Toolkit—a free digital resource designed to empower Nigerian businesses to attract investment and scale operations. Drawing on six years of experience facilitating over 300 investment opportunities, the toolkit provides practical guidance, templates, and investor insights.
“I’m delighted to celebrate this milestone and recognize the 23 Nigerian businesses we’ve supported,” said Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos. “These transactions demonstrate how strategic investments can drive economic growth and create meaningful employment opportunities.”
The toolkit incorporates lessons from real-world deals and includes frameworks for navigating complex investment processes—all available free of charge to any business seeking capital.
Nigeria’s Investment Landscape
Nigeria is a key market for the Manufacturing Africa programme, accounting for over 25% of early-stage investment activity in Africa. With five of the continent’s eight unicorns calling Nigeria home, the country represents significant growth potential—and where targeted investments can yield substantial returns.
The initiative’s success underscores what becomes possible when businesses receive tailored support to access commercial finance—opening doors for continued expansion and innovation across various sectors.
