Tennsa Raises Seed Funding to Revolutionize SME Operations with AI

Cape Town-based startup Tennsa has secured an investment from Oakvale Invest, Africa’s first AI-focused pre-seed fund. This marks the initial investment for Oakvale, which committed over ZAR1 million (US$61,000) in the company.

Addressing a Critical Need for SMEs

Tennsa is developing an AI business intelligence platform specifically designed to address operational challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises. Their flagship product, Tennsa OS, functions as an always-on operational intelligence layer that integrates with existing systems to provide real-time insights.

Human-Centered AI Approach

The company’s philosophy centers on building AI that complements human capabilities rather than replacing them. According to founder Rivar Maharaj, “Artificial intelligence is supposed to give people easier lives and more time to be human. At Tennsa, we are building around people rather than in place of them.”

Tennsa OS connects to various business systems—like accounting software, CRM platforms, etc.—and analyzes data to identify critical decisions that need attention, along with the reasoning behind those recommendations.

Vision for the Future

The funding will enable Tennsa to expand its development team and accelerate product rollout across South Africa. Oakvale Invest’s Herman Ekdahl emphasized their commitment to backing early-stage AI ventures on the African continent, stating that Tennsa “is exactly what we are looking for—a young African founder, a product built for this market rather than imported into it.”

With this investment, Tennsa is poised to become a leading provider of AI-powered operational intelligence solutions for SMEs in Africa and beyond.
