South African Startup Week Set to Transform Cape Town’s Tech Ecosystem

Cape Town is preparing to host the inaugural South African Startup Week (SASW) from April 15-17 at Makers Landing, V&A Waterfront. The event, organized by Startup Club ZA (SCZA), aims to create a landmark annual gathering for the local tech startup community.

A Week of Learning, Doing, and Connecting

The SASW is structured around three key themes: Inspire, Build, and Connect. Day one will feature founders from successful South African startups like Yoco, PayFast, Yebo Fresh, FlexClub, and UCOOK sharing their experiences. Day two offers 12 expert-led workshops covering essential topics such as product development, fundraising, legal matters, sales strategies, AI applications, and founder wellness.

The week concludes with curated connection opportunities—an ecosystem run, citywide coffee meetups, and a private investor lunch for active capital deployers. Attendees can expect to gain practical insights, build valuable relationships, and explore potential collaborations.

Addressing a Gap in the Market

“We’ve created an event that addresses a clear need in our local ecosystem,” said Mathew Marsden, founder of Startup Club ZA. “SASW brings together the people who are building and backing South Africa’s most ambitious companies—in one place, over three days.” The organization hopes this focused approach will accelerate growth for early-stage ventures.

Who Should Attend?

The event is open to founders at all stages, their teams, investors, and anyone interested in innovation. With a comprehensive program covering essential aspects of building a tech startup, SASW promises valuable takeaways for attendees regardless of experience level.
